A word from our girl Shana:

I can smell the seasonal depression in the air but we’re going to beat this shit by filling our lives with things that will help us stay warm and happy.

My solution: Going back to school in the winter. It might sound like nothing but stress but for me it means a routine. It will force me to get out the house and provide me with small goals that I will have to reach.

Solution 2: Gym Gym Gym. Move your bodies. Anything from going to the gym to picking up a hobby like dance or even just a quick stretch. When seasonal depression hits we need to get those endorphins going. Find a buddy to help you stay motivated.

Solution 3: Fill your body with good foods. Once winter weather hits intuitive eating becomes harder because your body craves unhealthy carbs (also known as comfort foods) and fats in order to keep warm and feel happy, BUT try replacing comfort foods with healthy fats. Find recipes that will get the right type of happiness hormones going.

Solution 4: WATER. Dehydration is a massive reason for our seasonal depression getting worse. It’s much harder staying hydrated during the winter because we don’t FEEL as thirsty in the cold, whereas in the summer we are hot and sweaty and we automatically turn to water. Find yourself a cute water bottle that keeps both cold and hot! That way if you don’t want to drink cold water in the cool weather you can do hot water infused with lemon

Solution 5: Take those vitamin D’s people !!! The sun is no longer shining down on us and as much as I wish I could bottle it up and drink it like water we can’t, so get yourself some vitamin D and look into other supplements that’s may help you through the winter.

Solution 6: when none of the above works do not beat yourself down. Be kind this season. Take rest days and remind yourself that you will be okay. If you need professional helps ALWAYS ASK. If that doesn’t feel like an option reach out to someone! Your school counsellor, your friends, your mentor, your mom, anyone that you feel comforted by.

And for those of you who do not suffer from seasonal depression I am so grateful you exist. If you can this season, reach out to people and check on those who may need it

Happy winter my beauties !!
